Pay attention to your warning lights on the dashboard. The Check Engine light is capable of covering the problems, but the engine temperature light, tire pressure light or oil light are more straightforward in finding out the issue. Yet, whatever lights up never ignore it. Delaying the diagnosis and repair could only lead to expensive and bigger problems.
Tyre check:
Make sure to take a close look at your tyres, that they are in good condition. Tires in cars have got a tread which increases grip and channels water away from the contact patch. Through this the tire reduces the chances of hydroplaning. Maintaining a sufficient amount of tread depth is mandatory. Make sure you check it from time to time.
Fluid puddles:
If you ever come across a spot fluid collecting underneath your car, definitely make sure to check it. Whatever type of fluid it is, it could cause performance problems in the car. Whether it’s brake fluid, steering fluid, coolant, or oil leaks it should be fixed as soon as possible.
Ticking or squealing:
If you hear a rapid tick or prolonged squeal in the car, it can indicate an issue with a belt under the hood. A loose timing belt can tick as it slips over the pulleys that connect it to the camshaft and crankshaft. Squealing, especially when turning the steering wheel, is often caused by a stretched out power steering belt or failing power steering pump. Do not ignore it, finding the problem earlier will save you a big expense.
Smoke or burning:
If by any chance you smell burning in the car do not ignore it and diagnose it as soon as possible. When you notice the smell, only when you push the brake then is it because of braking too hard or for too long it can cause the brake to overheat. A worn clutch in a manual transmission vehicle can also produce a smoky smell.
Exhaust or fuel:
A hole in the fuel or exhaust system can allow their telltale odors into the car. Regardless of the cause, it’s dangerous if you smell. If this smell appears in your car, make sure you drive with your windows open and fix the issue as soon as possible.
By diagnosing these issues ahead, customers can save a big expense.
